We already know that we will be able to buy the iPhone 3g from Apple Stores and AT&T stores, but if rumors are true (and they rarely are) two other stores may be added to that list. The completely unconfirmed rumor says that Apple will allow sales of the iPhone 3G at Best Buy and Radio Shack Stores.

iPhone 3G launch time rumor update

Posted June 25th, 2008 by GenghisPhlip

Don’t believe the reports that the U.S. iPhone launch will take place starting at 8am, July 11th at AT&T stores nationwide just yet. Even with an email that was supposedly sent to AT&T store managers from the corporate office that has been circulated over the last two days cannot be trusted. Right now the 8:00AM launch time is a totally unconfirmed rumor and as some of you may remember, the same thing happened with the release of the first generation iPhone when it was reported that AT&T stores planned to start selling the phone first thing in the morning only to actually start selling them at 6:00PM.

In a recent article I told you how it appears that AT&T was planning on running the 3G iPhone at 1.4Mbps even though it is capable of running speeds of up to 7.2. It seems that now that speed has been set in stone (internet stone anyway). According to AT&T 1.4Mbps is the average “observed speed” over their networks. The faster speeds are possible but they are trying to avoid getting slammed on July 11th when the new phone hits the streets.

1.4 does offer us some greatly increased speeds over the current EDGE network. It is the belief of this author that there will not be too many new iPhone users complaining.
