Default Reader’s Digest releases it’s first iPhone app: Life IQ (free)

Reader’s Digest has decided to throw it’s hat into the iPhone/iPod Touch app ring—their first release they say will for gamers.

The app, called Life IQ, represents the first in a line of future products that Reader’s Digest parent Reader’s Digest Association plans to create as part of its previously announced “Reader’s Digest Version” strategy. The idea is to repackage Reader’s Digest content into shortened versions for various platforms.

The Life IQ app is a trivia game that tests readers’ knowledge of food, home, health and technology facts. Right now the app is available for free download, though Reader’s Digest may add paid upgrades over time.

According to their release material, Reader’s Digest is also developing an app version of Word Power, based on their grammar column that runs in their printed issues. Rollout for this app will not happen until later this year.

“Our content is perfectly suited to the mobile platform which is utility based,” said Jonathan Hills, general manager, RD.com. “It’s part of a bigger plan to look at ways to repackage content to work on multiple platforms. It sets the tone for the lifestyle utility apps we’re looking at.”
