Desperation is a stinky cologne - Verizon goes all anti-iPhone

Well well well… It looks like Verizon has decided to fight back against the full on assault they have been taking from the iPhone 3G. They have given their employees a briefing about the new iPhone’s failings so that they can better answer questions about why Verizon does not carry the phone.  The propeganda that they handed employees revolved around what they called the four big “myths” about the iPhone.

Verizon CEO rages against the machine… The Apple machine

Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg seems on edge these days. He recently pointed some of his notorious trash talk at Apple and the iPhone via the FT:

In the same statement where he hails Apple as a “great company”, Mr Seidenberg points out the company’s current small market share of global handset sales. He rejects the suggestion that the iPhone is poised to become a mass-market handset because Apple has added a worldwide distributor chain and honored those service providers’ pleas to subsidise it.

Switching to the iPhone may get a lot cheaper soon

Are you interested in trading in your old phone for a sleek new iPhone? Is your current carrier creating roadblocks made of early cancellation fees? Well, the government is currently with wireless companies to help cell phone customers avoid expensive fees when they cancel contracts, The Associated Press reports.

For years cell phone companies have charged customers $175 or more leaving their contract early. To help, a proposal is being brought before the Federal Communications Commission that would force the wireless industry to give consumers the opportunity to cancel their service without any penalty for up to 30 days after they sign a cell phone contract or until 10 days after they receive their first bill.

AT&T profits soar on coat-tails of the infamous iPhone

Rubicon Consulting, famous for telling the world that iPhone users tend to be young, rich and technologically savy, has conducted a survey of iPhone users in an effort to track this phenomenon. It appears that AT&T’s decision to bring the iPhone manufacturer on has turned into a real gold mine for their investors.

AT&T named in class action texting lawsuit

It seems that every day we read of yet another lawsuit accusing one or several service providers of wrongdoing. This latest suit appears to have some teeth naming six major mobile-phone carriers and one mobile virtual network operator as defendants. The complaint has been filed in federal court in Mississippi.

The 12 page suit filed by the Graves Law Offices P.L.L.C in Jackson Mississippi states that “This action seeks recovery for actual and compensatory damages sustained by plaintiffs and others similarly situated. At this time, plaintiffs are specifically seeking recovery against the defendants for unauthorized charges, wrongful collections and unjust enrichment.”
