Canadians report even more iPhone problems with Rogers

Posted July 12th, 2008 by GenghisPhlip

Some Canadians say they were told that if they didn’t take the Rogers’ iPhone specific plans, anytime they used WiFi it would be counted towards their custom plans (like the newly announced $30/6GB promo). They said they were told that even though the iPhone would show WiFi, it would still count down 3G data, and that they would only find out when the bill came. We are now waiting on a statement of clarification from Rogers.

We didn’t run the story then because we couldn’t get any confirmation of the rumor, but now other reports of people being told the same thing at different Rogers stores has turned up.

The preparations include the installation of oversized iPhone 3G store displays (similar if not identical to those used for the original iphone launch) that show the phone’s features as they would be seen on the phone. The main difference seen with the new displays is that they have been updated a bit to show the sleek black back case of the iPhone 3G.

Daniel Smith claims he has information gleened from multiple sources, including a senior Rogers representative, that show that Apple diverted delivery of a significant amount of its initial iPhone 3G  from Canada and re-routed them to Europe in reaction to protest over the Canadian carrier Roger’s steep rate plans. The rates offer a third fewer minutes and very limited data when compared with their neighbors to the south, AT&T.

TheRegister.co.uk is claiming that Apple is circulating prototype iPhones that have physical keyboards amongst some mobile carriers in an effort to gauge the demand for such a device.

actual prototypes - not just mockups - have been sent to senior executives at some operators. I’m not allowed to even hint which operators… but I can report that the keyboard has “issues” which are not yet resolved.

iPhone Rumor Watch - Leaked AT&T memo gives MMS to iPhone 3G

Posted June 27th, 2008 by GenghisPhlip

Rumor of a leaked AT&T memo circulated the web today. The memo supposedly referred to a to date unknown feature of the iPhone 3G that would allow the device to take text messages and attach photos, audio and movies and integrate them into super MMS like messages. I am very skeptical of this report as I don’t think that a feature like this would have made it through the WWDC keynote without being touted by Steve Jobs.
