Unlocking the iPhone 3G in 3 easy (really hard) steps

Posted December 2nd, 2008 by GenghisPhlip

Our friends at Boing Boing Gadgets showed us an interesting piece about master Vietnamese phone-unlockers. The author reports that the iPhone virtuosos of desoldering manage to painstakingly unlock iPhones so that they can be used on any network. Not for the faint of heart though…

Once again the Dev Team has pulled through with some very important updates to both the Pwnage Tool and QuickPwn. Their latest comes in the form of PwnageTool 2.0.3.1. You can download it here.

Also, QuickPwn Release Candidate 3 has been released. Supposed to be fixed in this release is the issue for 64-bit Windows users and the new version is supposed to work for all Windows versions. Download QuickPwn RC3 here.

If you’ve been having a problem with jailbreaking, these releases should address your issues and as always, as much as we love the dev team we cannot guarantee that they will work properly. Please understand that you will use these programs at your own risk.

Posted August 8th, 2008 by GenghisPhlip

So it’s been 22 hours now since we recieved the last information from the DevTeam concerning the release of their new PwnageTool 2.0.2. The DevTeam delayed the release of the new jailbreaking tool yesterday when they got word from RipDev that installer.app 4 was ready for release. The DevTeam wanted to make sure that the new installer will be included with the new PwnageTool. We are continuing to monitor this expected release and will bring you updates as they come in.

Some time ago Qik announced that they were working on a video broadcast client for the iPhone. At the time of their initial announcement, Qik was only offered in a limited beta version for jailbroken phones. The company has now announced that all jailbroken iPhones running 1.1.4 will be able to get the client through Installer.app.  Apple still will not allow streaming video via the iPhone’s camera so jailbreaking is the only way to use Qik.

Download installer.app 4 beta

Posted August 4th, 2008 by GenghisPhlip

Here is the link for the installer.app 4 beta download

Please acknowledge that this is an application that is currently in early beta status. We do not recommend installing this application unless you really know what you are doing and are willing to risk real and irreversable damage to your iPhone. We are providing this download as a service only and will not provide public support for the beta version. Members who opt to participate in this beta will be discussing it in the app forum.

UPDATE: It seems our download source has been knocked offline due to high traffic. Please check back regularly as we plan to have the download link back active as soon as it comes back online.

UPDATE 2: It’s back online (for now).

UPDATE 3: Download process seems stable now.

UPDATE 4: Remember when Cydia came out and there were not many apps for it? Well, it’s the same story here. There aren’t many apps listed in Installer right now. It’s important to note that just because the installer has been updated version it doesn’t mean all the applications will work with 2.0. They will still have to be ported to work with the new  firmware.

UPDATE 5: Just posted an instruction guide for installing the installer 4 beta.

installer.app 4 video released

Posted August 4th, 2008 by GenghisPhlip

The guys at InstallerApps claim that they’ve come across a leaked early version of Installer.app 4. That’s the version of installer.app that has been in the works for the iPhone 2.0 software. It appears that the download link works, but the installation process requires SSH and command line work to install and is apparently still an early rough beta.

Installer.app for iPhone 2.0 to be released at any time

Posted August 3rd, 2008 by GenghisPhlip

RipDev has announced that they are on the verge of releasing their much anticipated installer 4 (Ugh, that’s installer.app. You know, the one all you guys have been hammering my email over). In a call to repository owners around the world, the RipDev (Russian iPhone Dev) team announced that they are ready to release a beta of their new installer.app. Jailbreakers were disappointed to find that the latest jailbreak adventure included the installation of Cydia instead of the more familiar (and more developer supported) installer.app. That realization has sparked a call from jailbreakers around the world for an installer that works with their new 2.0 firmware.

The latest in the Jeweled custom iPhone craze is the Beijing Olympic iPhone by De Vere of London. De Vere’s $8,219, diamond-studded iPhone shows some real thoughtfulness on the part of the De Vere designers in that the jewelery is limited to the only part of the device that can reasonably set it, its metal trim. One may increase or decrease the number of diamonds, and the price, as desired.

Cydia gets a facelift!

Posted August 2nd, 2008 by GenghisPhlip

Yesterday Cydia got a new look and some really nice new features. You’ll first notice the change when you enter the “manage” page. You will be given choices between mananging your packages and managing your sources. Note that manageing sources does not mean that you can add old installer sources. You still have to have a valid apt source for Cydia.
