A recently filed application at the U.S. Patent Office acknowledges that the capacitive touchscreens on devices like the iPhone and iPod touch are next to impossible to use in colder weather. The screens depend on the electrical response from a user’s bare fingertips, which in cold weather are usually covered by insulated gloves leaving the user to either take off the glove and expose the digits to the elements or wait until safely indoors.
After 2 years o wanting one (but thinking they were a bit too expensive) I finally recieved an Apple Bluetooth earbud for my iPhone (Christmas gift!). I couldn’t wait to get it unboxed and put it to use. The packaging was very Apple (similar to an iPod Nano’s box) and the earbud came with a special cable that allows both the phone and earbud to charge at the same time.
OK, so this might not be attractive to everyone but we think that this iPhone 3G gut showing clear case is da bomb! This custom clear replacement case shows all of the gory details of your iPhone 3G leaving nothing to the imagination. Some of our readers have stated that this is the most horrible case yet to be introduced while others just love it. Take a look and let us know what you think.
While both the iPhone and iPod touch were designed to be navigated using only your finger some have reported problems using it. Those with very large fingers or long fingernails report that the touch system is virtually impossible for them to navigate and type accurately. With those people in mind, Japanese engineers have introduced a new tool to help. They are calling it the iPhone Japanese Touch Stylus and it is reported to do everything that a skinny, short nailed finger can do. (more…)
We’ve seen a lot of charging options start to flood the marketplace for the iPhone 3G and for good reason. The latest introduction is this solar charging case from Mobile Fun. All the iPhone user has to do is place the case in direct sunlight (without the iPhone inserted - not supposed to leave those in the sun you know) for about three hours and let the case’s built-in solar panel charge it’s on-board 1500mAh battery pack.
The latest in the Jeweled custom iPhone craze is the Beijing Olympic iPhone by De Vere of London. De Vere’s $8,219, diamond-studded iPhone shows some real thoughtfulness on the part of the De Vere designers in that the jewelery is limited to the only part of the device that can reasonably set it, its metal trim. One may increase or decrease the number of diamonds, and the price, as desired.
I just hate it when I’m out and about and my iPhone suddenly runs out of power? With this new holster pack, not only can I carry around my iPhone securly on my hip (insert geek comment here) but it also ensures that my iPhone’s battery stays topped off. It’s able to do this because it has a small lithium-ion battery pack in it’s base that uses a standard doc connector to provide a charge to your iPhone.
The new iPhone OS 2.1 beta 1 update is going to add improvements to the GPS feature on the iPhone.(Don’t confuse this with update 2.0.1, is a bug fixer for the current firware). With these new improvements, your phone will not only know where you are, but also what direction you are going and how fast.
Many of you have reported that while using the HSDPA radio in the new iPhone 3G affords you a much faster web browsing experience, it also drains your battery very quickly. The first generation iPhones using the EDGE connection allowed users hours upon hours of web surfing enjoyment but the iPhone 3G is drained of power much sooner. Should you throw out your shiny new toy and opt for an older one or is there another answer? (more…)

Usually these “believe it or not” videos usually should not be but this one has us scratching our heads. It is a promo video for the Golden Shellback waterproof coating and appears to be the real deal. It was developed at the Northeast Maritime Institute and we hope that we will see it in production sometime soon.
We’ve sung the praises and the pitfalls of the iPhone 3G; blazing 3G high-speed data GPS (pseudo) navigation of course the App Store, cracks in the case, poor battery performance and lack of key features. One feature that was for some reason left out of the second coming of the iPhone that really has our boxers in a bunch is stereo Bluetooth.
Many iPhone 3G buyers were upset to find that in order To reduce the price of the iPhone, Apple removed the some of the devices shipped with the first version of the mobile. They actually did the same thing in the past with their popular iPod line. One crafty 3G owner found that the dock that came with the BlueTooth headset he bought for his first generation iPhone was easily adapted to fit his new 3G. All he used was a Dremel tool to widen the dock area, then a quick polish of the dremeled areas and voila. Nicely done Goulwin!
I’ve played with all of the jailbreak app guitar tuners for the iPhone/iPod Touch and found them lacking. Most needed tuning themselves in my opinion so while they were fun to play around with and I thought the idea was neat I never used them beyond testing in favor of my trusty Korg tuner or even better my trusty ear.
