Once again the Dev Team has pulled through with some very important updates to both the Pwnage Tool and QuickPwn. Their latest comes in the form of PwnageTool 2.0.3.1. You can download it here.
Also, QuickPwn Release Candidate 3 has been released. Supposed to be fixed in this release is the issue for 64-bit Windows users and the new version is supposed to work for all Windows versions. Download QuickPwn RC3 here.
If you’ve been having a problem with jailbreaking, these releases should address your issues and as always, as much as we love the dev team we cannot guarantee that they will work properly. Please understand that you will use these programs at your own risk.
When the iPhone 3G and the App Store were released it was not long before some people began questioning whether it was still necessary to jailbreak the phone. The new firmware and App Store now allows users access to Apple’s huge library of applications but the question we ask is why would you not want to jailbreak your iPhone? (more…)
Not glued to the iPhone dev team’s blog? Oh, you are? Oh well, for the rest of you about an hour ago they announced that a GUI version of their latest Windows release, QuickPwn, is ready for you to download. We’ll have some instructions on this very quickly. In the meantime the following is the post from the dev team:
Update: It finally has been released. Refresh your screen.
After hours of confusion (and outright anger on the part of some) the DevTeam tells us that a previously unknown bug was found that caused them to delay the release of PwnageTool 2.0.2 once again. They had the following to say:
When the iPhone DevTeam stated today “It is Sparkling” the announcement spread confusion around the world with many commenters to their site exclaiming thus. For those who do not know, Sparkle is a piece of software that is designed to simplify updating software for the end user of a program. Sparkle supports checking for updates via appcasting. The DevTeam’s announcement that “It is Sparkling” simply meant that the this program was being used to aid the update. Earlier, we took the statement literally and submitted a post stating that the update was available but since thanks to several keen-eyed observers we were able to make a correction. We are continuing to monitor the update and should have more news soon.
Thanks to all of the ifonenation.com members who helped out today!
The DevTeam announced that their PwnageTool 2.0.2 will be released at some point today. This article contains information that you really need to know about the new PwnageTool. The following is a guide to some information that you will need to read before PwnageTool 2.0.2 is released.
So it’s been 22 hours now since we recieved the last information from the DevTeam concerning the release of their new PwnageTool 2.0.2. The DevTeam delayed the release of the new jailbreaking tool yesterday when they got word from RipDev that installer.app 4 was ready for release. The DevTeam wanted to make sure that the new installer will be included with the new PwnageTool. We are continuing to monitor this expected release and will bring you updates as they come in.
For once we get a delayed program release that we are happy for. The iPhone devteam announced today that they are delaying the release of PwnageTool 2.0.2 (previously scheduled to be released today). According to their message, the devteam recieved word from RipDev that they had installer.app 4 ready to go. On this word, the devteam decided to include it in their latest PwnageTool, hence the delay.
The iPhone 3G cannot be unlock yet, but at least those of you who waited to update your iPhone to the 2.0.1 firmware are about to get the improved stability and snappy keyboarding reported by early updaters while those who updated early will once again gain access to their jailbroken apps.
RipDev has announced that they are on the verge of releasing their much anticipated installer 4 (Ugh, that’s installer.app. You know, the one all you guys have been hammering my email over). In a call to repository owners around the world, the RipDev (Russian iPhone Dev) team announced that they are ready to release a beta of their new installer.app. Jailbreakers were disappointed to find that the latest jailbreak adventure included the installation of Cydia instead of the more familiar (and more developer supported) installer.app. That realization has sparked a call from jailbreakers around the world for an installer that works with their new 2.0 firmware.
Yesterday Cydia got a new look and some really nice new features. You’ll first notice the change when you enter the “manage” page. You will be given choices between mananging your packages and managing your sources. Note that manageing sources does not mean that you can add old installer sources. You still have to have a valid apt source for Cydia.
We have been playing with the new PwnageTool for several days now but it was just last night that the iPhone DevTeam formally announced the new tool. PwnageTool 2.0 has made jailbreaking a snap for people who are using iPhone 2.0 and mac OS X. We have an easy tutorial for the PwnageTool posted here.
Jailbreakers of the new iPhone 2.0 firmware are noticing that both the PwnageTool 2.0 and WinPwn 2.0 package Cydia as an application installer instead of the familiar installer.app. While the core function of these two applications is almost identical, many have noticed that the vast list of applications that were available on installer.app are not currently present in Cydia.
