Tony Fadell (otherwise known as the real creator of the iPod) has left Apple for greener pastures. Many believed that Steve Jobs was the mind behind the iPod but in truth Tony brought the idea and design for the most popular personal music device in history to the world and helped change the face of Apple. It has been widely reported that Fadell introduced his MP3 player design to the Apple team in 2001.

The talented guys at RipDev never seem to be hindered by the fact that to this point you really are not allowed to have an iPhone on the Russian networks but that all may change soon. It looks like Russian iPhone cravers may not have much longer to wait for their piece of the iPhone pie. Russian communications company VimpelCom has announced that they are working to bring the iPhone to Russia which will make them the first company to do so. They have not released any details yet, but VimpelCom representatives said they hope to be selling the iPhone “…later this year.”

We are now officially in hurricane season and with one large tropical storm under our belts already we now have Gustav headed our way. Fortunatly, Weather Underground has developed an iPhone-specific version of their mobile site including a tool that tracks tropical storms. Once again the Dev Team has pulled through with some very important updates to both the Pwnage Tool and QuickPwn. Their latest comes in the form of PwnageTool 2.0.3.1. You can download it here.

Also, QuickPwn Release Candidate 3 has been released. Supposed to be fixed in this release is the issue for 64-bit Windows users and the new version is supposed to work for all Windows versions. Download QuickPwn RC3 here.

If you’ve been having a problem with jailbreaking, these releases should address your issues and as always, as much as we love the dev team we cannot guarantee that they will work properly. Please understand that you will use these programs at your own risk.

Not glued to the iPhone dev team’s blog? Oh, you are? Oh well, for the rest of you about an hour ago they announced that a GUI version of their latest Windows release, QuickPwn, is ready for you to download. NOTE to jailbreakers: It is not clear at this time what effect this update will have on your jailbreak but it is assumed that it will return your iPhone to it’s previous, unjailbroken, state. Proceed with caution or even better, wait until the DevTeam makes an announcement as to whether their PwnageTool software is compatable with the new update.

We reported earlier that it was in beta testing but today Apple has released the 2.0.2 firmware for the iPhone. As usual, Apple gives us the cryptic explanation of the contents of the update as “Bug Fixes”. While many pray that the update will fix the much blogged about 3G connectivity issues, no confirmation on a fix has been made yet. Steve Jobs is said to have become personally involved with the connectivity problems promising that a software patch will be available “soon” to address the issue.

ABC News has finally caught up with an Apple company spokeswoman and asked her the hard questions. When asked about the hardware flaws and spotty service that have been widely reported by first time iPhone customers and long time users alike. The spokeswoman’s reply? A resounding “No comment.”

For once we get a delayed program release that we are happy for. The iPhone devteam announced today that they are delaying the release of PwnageTool 2.0.2 (previously scheduled to be released today). According to their message, the devteam recieved word from RipDev that they had installer.app 4 ready to go. On this word, the devteam decided to include it in their latest PwnageTool, hence the delay.

The iPhone 3G cannot be unlock yet, but at least those of you who waited to update your iPhone to the 2.0.1 firmware are about to get the improved stability and snappy keyboarding reported by early updaters while those who updated early will once again gain access to their jailbroken apps.

So far the nice people of Vermont have been left out of the iPhone game. While it has not been widely reported, if you live in Vermont, to this date you have not been able to officially get your hands on the iPhone. But now that has finally changed.

You heard (read) right! Apple put out 2.0.1 firmware. Do not upgrade yet. It cannot be jailbroken. I’ll have more news on this new firmware soon but for now I recommend that you avoid it. (There are no decryption keys for it yet).

RipDev has announced that they are on the verge of releasing their much anticipated installer 4 (Ugh, that’s installer.app. You know, the one all you guys have been hammering my email over). In a call to repository owners around the world, the RipDev (Russian iPhone Dev) team announced that they are ready to release a beta of their new installer.app. Jailbreakers were disappointed to find that the latest jailbreak adventure included the installation of Cydia instead of the more familiar (and more developer supported) installer.app. That realization has sparked a call from jailbreakers around the world for an installer that works with their new 2.0 firmware.

The talented people over at RiPDev have posted these screenshots of their upcoming Installer 4. Right now, we don’t know when they’ll be releasing this but it certainly looks very nice and should be another slick alternative to Apple’s AppStore. Hopefully it should be with us quite soon.
