We reported it, then un-reported it then reported it again then re-un-reported it… You get the picture. After months of speculation, insider interviews, spy photos and reports of tests AT&T has finally released their WiFi plan for their iPhone users.
iPhone users from accross the U.S. report recieving the following text message:
Don’t start counting your chickens yet but it’s being reported that the Apple iPhone team is working on a deal with AT&T that may allow for legitimate tethering on the iPhone 3G.
Of course if you were on your toes you could have created a Wi-Fi hotspot with your iPhone using NetShare, but that app has long since been pulled then returned then pulled again from the Apple App Store and if you don’t have it now you probably won’t get it.
The cost of data plans in Canada have been a much talked about subject since the arrival of the iPhone 3G in Canada and the United States. After taking much heat for their unpopular iPhone 3G data plans in Canada, Rogers announced their six gigabytes for $30/month deal at the last possible moment. iPhone 3G users in the States can surf all they want with no data limitations for the same $30 a month. So what happens with a United States based iPhone 3G crosses the border into Canada? A good ole fashoned wallet gouging that’s what.
ifonenation members are reporting that they received a text message from AT&T about their 3G iPhones. The message, they report, reminds users to upgrade to iPhone software 2.0.2.
NOTE to jailbreakers: It is not clear at this time what effect this update will have on your jailbreak but it is assumed that it will return your iPhone to it’s previous, unjailbroken, state. Proceed with caution or even better, wait until the DevTeam makes an announcement as to whether their PwnageTool software is compatable with the new update.
We reported earlier that it was in beta testing but today Apple has released the 2.0.2 firmware for the iPhone. As usual, Apple gives us the cryptic explanation of the contents of the update as “Bug Fixes”. While many pray that the update will fix the much blogged about 3G connectivity issues, no confirmation on a fix has been made yet. Steve Jobs is said to have become personally involved with the connectivity problems promising that a software patch will be available “soon” to address the issue. (more…)
ABC News has finally caught up with an Apple company spokeswoman and asked her the hard questions. When asked about the hardware flaws and spotty service that have been widely reported by first time iPhone customers and long time users alike. The spokeswoman’s reply? A resounding “No comment.”

What a ride! AT&T has once again shown us that they have not finished bungling their iPhone Wi-Fi offering. Today they once again posted to their website that “AT&T knows Wi-Fi is hot, and free Wi-Fi even hotter, which is why we are proud to offer iPhone customers free access to the nation’s largest Wi-Fi hotspot network.”
AT&T has again posted information on their website letting iPhone customers know that they will have free access to more than 17,000 Wi-Fi hotspots access across the U.S., these include the long rumored Starbucks locations:
AT&T knows Wi-Fi is hot, and free Wi-Fi even hotter, which is why we are proud to offer iPhone customers free access to the nation’s largest Wi-Fi hotspot network with more than 17,000 hotspots, including Starbucks*. Now users can relax and access music, e-mail and web browsing services with their favorite blend in hand from the comfort of their favorite location. AT&T provides an online tool to find a Wi-Fi spot near you.
Piper Jeffray’s Gene Munster is rarely wrong and this time his estimate of Apple’s supply chain contradicts those made by most other analysts. He says that he estimates that the current iPhone 3G shortage will last until well into August. “we’ll see problems for another two to four weeks,” adding, “early demand has been more than [Apple] expected.” (more…)
When we set out to do our interviews with people waiting in line for the iPhone 3G last Friday it never occurred to us that we should antagonize and belittle those dedicated iPhone fans. Well, this reporter decided to one up us (and every other sensible reporter in the nation) and got pwn’d.
Eric Spillman, you sir are a complete moron and no, we will not hire you.
There were lots of activation problems with the iPhone 3G this morning. The problem was not just here in the U.s. but all around the world. If you were one of the ones who left the store with an unactivated iPhone, activating it is lot easier than you may think. (more…)
This morning we hit it hard and fast. I and my trusty cameraman Thomas hit the road in a mad dash to interview as many iPhone 3G line waiters as possible. We hit AT&T stores all over North Texas and found some very interesting people. Here is some video…
