Nokia’s official blog ‘Nokia Conversations’ released a video this week featuring a senior VP from Nokia’s smartphone division. When something like this happens we at ifonenation stop and pay attention because we have learned throughout the years that you never know what might be revealed during a (semi?) scripted, informal chat such as this one. In the video, Jo Harlow, Nokia’s Senior Vice President of Smartphones is asked about Nokia’s future smartphone technologies and experiences allowing her to dive into a discussion about using augmented reality as a means to enhance existing Nokia services, specifically as such can be used to enhance the experience in apps like Ovi Maps.

Harlow then shifts her discussion to a more entertainment based perspective because “everyone’s talking about 3D.” She feels that there is an opportunity for mobile devices to be fully 3D capable earlier than even typical television development to mobile. This means that mobile content, specifically 3D games, “could be very, very interesting in terms of enhancing that experience.” What ‘interests’ of the Senior VP that will eventually trickle into real manufacturing of the devices can only be left to the imagination however Nokia has not been shy with it’s 3D prototypes in the past. What does this mean to the rest of the industry? iPhone? Watch the video and decide for yourself.
