Trip Cubby takes some of the bite out of business travel
Posted August 16th, 2008 by GenghisPhlipIf you are like me you spend more time traveling than you spend at home. My career has made me a 15 year veteren road warrior which keeps me in the air or in rental cars more than anyone should ever have to. I’ve often boasted that I could tour guide just about any airport, car rental agency or hotel in the world. It’s the logistics of it all that often leaves me scratching my head.
To keep up with all of my travel expenses and find ways to curb them I have resorted to log books, notepads and even fast food napkins in an effort to keep track of how much I’m spending much to the chagrin of my accountant. Thankfully a new tool is available for my iPhone which promises to make this portion of my travel experience much easier to handle. Enter Trip Cubby. Whether you are driving for business, fun or even charity, this App Store app should help you track your mileage with accuracy and ease.
Trip Cubby has been called a mileage log on steroids. The interface is very well designed and gives you the ability to enter as much detail as you want about your trips. Upon launching Trip Cubby, you will see a simple list of trips and an option to add a new trip if necessary. Each trip is completely customizable and allows you to enter any information that you need for each leg. The app then accurately captures the entire trip and displays an estimate of the mileage that you should log. You can enter mileage variences on the fly to keep your record up to date.
My accountant will be thrilled with the new trip logs that I will be able to provide each quarter because Trip Cubby not only creates a comma-delimited (CSV) file, but it also opens the iPhone mail app so that I can send it directly to him from anywhere I have a connection. David Barnard, the developer of Trip Cubby, says that he is currently working on an online backup system for the app that will keep your logs should your iTunes backup “lose” your info. Trip Cubby is available on App Store and sells for a reasonable $6.99.
