Ready to replace your iPhone with an iPhone 3G?
Posted July 4th, 2008 by GenghisPhlipReady to replace your original iPhone with a slick, new iPhone 3G? Apple thought you might be so they posted a Support Document that tells you exactly what you should do to make the replacement go smoothly.
In a nutshell there are two main areas (tracks) that you need to pay close attention to: 1) Customers in the United States will get a new SIM card with the new phone so you will not need your original “account information will be transferred to your new iPhone 3G’s included SIM when you purchase the phone.” 2) Customers outside of the United States can “use your original iPhone’s SIM with the iPhone 3G.”
Then you will need to back up up your original iPhone using iTunes 7.7 and then restore that backup to the new iPhone 3G. This should transfer all your saved SMS messages as well as email accounts, notes, etc. All you will have left to do then is erase the old iPhone with the new secure erase option.
